People are sending a warning to a senator whose stance on protecting abortion rights isn`t strong enough for them.

On Wednesday, after U.S. Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy announced his retirement, Republican Senator Susan Collins said she views Roe v. Wade — the ruling that ensures nation-wide abortion access — as "settled law."

"It`s clearly precedent," she said on Wednesday when asked about her stance on protecting abortion laws. "I always look for judges who respect precedent."

But on Thursday, her commitment to upholding Roe v. Wade seemed shaky. Her spokeswoman Annie Clark told the Portland Press Herald that Collins "always looks at their judicial temperament" and "respect for precedent" when evaluating judges, and then clarified that the senator "does not apply ideological litmus tests" to nominees.  Read more...

Every year on the Fourth of July, America celebrates its independence with annual traditions like barbecues, picnics, fireworks — and mattress sales.

That`s great news, because after a long day of barbecuing in the sun and staying up late scrolling through the hellhole that is Twitter watching fireworks, crawling into bed is the only thing we want to do.

Here`s our list of the best mattress deals for July Fourth. Among the top, we have to mention our latest obsession — Casper. This bed-in-a-box takes both convenience and comfort to a new level, and we`re not just talking about the 125-225 you can save with their Fourth of July deal. Read more...

In 1989, park rangers first spotted Bear 410 as a small cub.

Since then, she often returns to the banks of the salmon-filled river where she grew up. And again, nearly 30 years later, this old, remarkable bear has come back, claiming her status as the Brooks River`s oldest known bear.

"Each year she returns, I`m more amazed," said Mike Fitz, a former Katmai park ranger who reports on the bear cam for explore.org. "The competition and risks don`t get any easier for her, but she continues to survive and make a living." Read more...

Relationships are definitely cool and all. It`s fun to get special presents for holidays, and definitely feels nice to have someone to cuddle up with during cuffing season. Sure.

You know what`s also cool? Being able to hook up with whoever you want.

SEE ALSO: These are the best dating apps for hooking up

While being single definitely has its perks, you`re still gonna want to do the dirty — and let`s face it, sliding into someone`s DMs or awkwardly going up to someone at the bar isn`t the most endearing way to be like "Yo, I`d like to have sex with you."

Well, there`s an app for that.

Apple Maps is finally getting the redesign it needs.

In a deep dive with TechCrunch, Apple detailed the lengths it`s gone to over the past few years to rebuild its maps app, which will make its (limited) public debut next week.

According to the report, the new app will be available to iOS 12 beta users in the San Francisco Bay Area next week and will expand to all of Northern California later this year. It`s not clear how long the full global rollout might take.

So what`s going to be different with the new Apple Maps? The short answer is just about everything. Because Apple has spent the last couple years gathering and parsing its own maps data — it`s no longer relying on data from third-party partners — the company now has much more detailed physical information about the world.  Read more...

In 2018, standup comedy is almost as inescapable as politics, and the two overlap fairly often. Comedians like to say Trump is good for comedy, but that means holding jokes to a higher standard than the easiest impression or something about Cheetos.

How do we find humor in times of darkness, division, political upheaval and open hatred? How do we make people smarter and bring them together? With a Netflix subscription, for starters, and with some whip-smart comedy.

Here are the best political jokes from the standup specials of 2018 (so far).

The internet service provider America loves to hate, Comcast, is reportedly experiencing service outages across the U.S. And it`s bad.

Once upon a time, prospective vacation-goers would journey to an IRL storefront, where a person called a “travel agent” would be waiting amid stacks of maps and dog-eared travel guides. (Probably.) There, the travel agent would type away on a gigantic desktop computer for several minutes, summoning the perfect itinerary from some inscrutable database of flight options.

But thanks to the internet, travel agents have been rendered largely obsolete, leaving travelers to sift through thousands of flights on their own. Or at least, it might seem that way.

The truth is we’re not alone, or at least not completely. Websites abound to help us amateurs parse an often overwhelming number of choices, comparing everything from prices to the ideal layover city.  Read more...

When you think of mermaids, you probably think of The Little Mermaid`s Ariel earnestly yearning to be "a part of your world." What you probably don`t think of is a merman dragging himself along rocks and sand to a wagon so that he can be carried to a house on Venice Beach where he will have sex with a woman who is obsessed with love.

And yet, that`s exactly what happens in Melissa Broder`s new novel The Pisces.

The Pisces follows Lucy, a student who has been working on her dissertation about Sappho for nine years with no sign of finishing. Lucy`s world is turned upside down when she and her boyfriend break up and she learns that she has to finish her dissertation over the summer or she`ll lose her school funding. Worried, Lucy`s sister Annika invites Lucy to spend the summer living and dog-sitting in her house in Venice Beach where Lucy can get away from the stress of her program, work on her dissertation, go to therapy, and recover from her breakup. Reluctantly, Lucy goes, and everything seems normal. Read more...

In the midst of Facebook`s biggest public relations crisis ever, the social media behemoth wants everyone to know that it`s going to start taking transparency very, very seriously.

That new commitment, the company explained, starts with changing its notoriously opaque policies and products to better reflect this newfound commitment. In a blog post, Facebook announced an update to its pages that will allow users to see all the ads that page is currently running, along with a detailed history of any name changes that have been made to the page.

Previously, there were very few ways page owners could be held accountable for the ads they ran. A page could "dark post" hyper-targeted ads into users` News Feed or Instagram feed and there would be no clear way to tie the ad back to the organization that paid for it. Read more...

A stereotypical depiction of a leprechaun

The leprechaun is perhaps one of the best-known creatures in Irish folklore. Leprechauns are popularly depicted as little men with beards dressed in green coats and tall green hats. Other well-known beliefs about leprechauns include the pot of gold that they are said to keep at the end of the rainbow, and their mischievous nature. Whilst many are familiar with this general depiction of the leprechaun, there are other aspects of these Irish creatures that are less well-known.

The Carniolan honey bee (Apis mellifera carnica) is a subspecies of Western honey bee.

For several years now, reports have circulated about the worrisome decline of the population of bees. Periodically, newspaper headlines lament the bees’ disappearance as an irreversible tipping point toward environmental devastation.
