It looks exactly how it sounds: eyeliner with a bloody twist. You can create it by applying red eyeliner, some fake blood, and liquid latex to your lashes. People are actually digging this trend, and while it`s pretty creative, it`s also pretty creepy. But if "pretty creepy" is what you`re looking for, maybe consider this for Halloween. Read more...

When the White House awarded a two-person company from Montana a 300 million contract to restore power to Puerto Rico, it obviously raised some red flags.

The company, Whitefish Energy Holdings, just so happens to be located in the hometown of Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke. It also employed Zinke`s son for a summer. So yeah, Carmen Yulín Cruz, the mayor of Puerto Rico`s capital city, San Juan, was a little skeptical.

“The contract should be voided right away and a proper process which is clear, transparent, legal, moral and ethical should take place,” she told Yahoo News on Wednesday.  Read more...

Ronald McDonald has long been the creepy mascot of the mega fast food chain, and, well, it`s a gimmick that`s not aging very well.

The war on clowns has really taken off in recent years, and Burger King is using that to its advantage in a new ad, which portrays Ronald as a spooky clown just in time for Halloween.

In the spot, a teen on a bike is chased by a bunch of clowns, including one that`s strikingly similar to Ronald. Eventually, the boy finds safety in a Burger King, where a clown tells him, "I want my Whopper."

"Come as a clown, eat like a king," the tagline reads.

The details at the end of the ad clear things up a bit: The first 500 guests wearing clown costumes in select cities after 7 p.m. on Halloween night will receive a free Whopper. The cities are limited to Boston, Los Angeles, Austin, and Salt Lake City, but the campaign is pretty great even if you`re not in one of those lucky spots.  Read more...

Being a fan of both The Walking Dead comics and the TV show can be a wild experience. There are times when the series stays true to its source material, and times when it could not deviate more.

And yeah, that can be a little maddening. Every time something even a little reminiscent of the comics happens on the show, questions inevitably follow: Are the producers trying to give us a hint about something? Are they misleading us? Do they assume that we`ll wonder if they`re misleading us and use it as a double-bluff? Should I step away from the TV and go outside?

That familiar feeling crept up pretty quickly for many Walking Dead fans during the Season 8 premiere, when Carl came face to face with a mysterious character at a gas station. The man (played by Avi Nash) was alone and desperate, asking Carl for food since he hadn`t eaten in days. Read more...

Auto giant Daimler has made some big moves recently to expand its electric vehicle programs, even tussling on social media with Elon Musk over its commitment to the new tech. Now one of the conglomerate`s companies has unveiled plans for brand new heavy-duty all-electric vehicles, just weeks ahead of Tesla`s semi truck reveal event.

Daimler Trucks` Mitsubishi FUSO Truck and Bus Corporation (MFTBC) announced E-FUSO, a new brand focused on electric trucks and buses, and showed off an all-electric truck concept from the brand, the Vision One, at the Tokyo Motor Show.

Sexual harassment doesn`t just mean a boss harassing his secretary. Any person in the workplace can sexually harass any of his colleagues—even if he doesn`t have the power to "make or break" their careers.

That`s something that Robert Scoble, the Silicon Valley entrepreneur, blogger, and fixture at tech conferences, doesn`t seem to understand.

Scoble responded Wednesday afternoon to sexual harassment allegations against him with a lengthy, ill-advised blog postBusiness Insider reported Friday that three women accused Scoble of harassment between 2009 and 2014. One woman said Scoble groped her and kissed another woman when she was drunk and unable to consent; one woman said Scoble and his wife both verbally harassed her, and a third woman said Scoble touched her inappropriately during a work-related event at which alcohol was presentTechCrunch reported further allegations. Scoble resigned from his role as a partner at his VR/AR startup three days later.  Read more...

Joe Biden is moving forward after the death of his son Beau, but it doesn`t sound like he`s ready to put the White House behind him just yet.

The former vice president caught up with Vanity Fair`s David Kamp to chat about his upcoming book,  Promise Me, Dad, in which he writes about his family and life after the White House. Perhaps most notably, Obama`s BFF straight up said he`s not ruling out a 2020 presidential run.

"I haven’t decided to run, but I’ve decided I’m not going to decide not to run," Biden said when Kamp asked about 2020. "We’ll see what happens." Read more...

We each have our own distinctive preferences when it comes to Starbucks drinks.

For instance, whatever drink I order has to be chocolate based. Though that may sound blasphemous to coffee purists, I don`t think it`s anything too out there. But some people have specific over-the-top requests when it comes to their Starbucks drinks, like 20 pumps of syrup. I`m not judging anyone, but that`s kind of a lot.

Terence Wiggins, a Starbucks barista who recently put his two weeks notice in, shared a set of photos on his Twitter and Tumblr accounts of the craziest orders he`s received since working at the coffeehouse chain.  Read more...

Be warned: The International Spy Museum in D.C. is a total troll.

If you haven`t already seen it, there`s a shark exhibit in the museum, which has become well known in the past few years for briefly terrifying those who are easily scared.

In the exhibit, there`s a screen that`s supposed to look like an aquarium, with a sign that reads, "touch at your own risk" above it. when you touch the glass, it triggers a fake shark that then comes charging at the glass, cracking it when it makes contact.

People have been falling for it for years, but this dude`s reaction may be the best yet.  Read more...

The acronyms might not be quite as catchy as CRISPR — since, really, what is? — but what new genetic tools dubbed REPAIR and ABE lack in whimsy they promise to make up in utility. These advances announced Wednesday solve two of the problems hobbling CRISPR, the revolutionary genome-editing technique: that its idea of “editing” is often like 1,000 monkeys editing a Word document, and that making permanent changes to DNA might not be the best approach.

Together, the discoveries, described in separate studies, show that five years after scientists demonstrated that CRISPR can edit DNA, bioengineers are still racing to develop the most efficient, precise, versatile — and therefore lucrative — genome-editing tools possible. Read more...

There`s a co-op mode in Super Mario Odyssey!

This might be old news to some of you. It`s a detail that was the subject of an E3 reveal back in June, so it`s hardly a secret. But E3 is filled with reveals, and it was news to both myself and Mashable Games Editor Tina Amini when we discovered it today, so we decided it might be worth a reminder.

Odyssey does a funny thing with Mario`s hat. It`s not just a simple hat anymore, as it`s been in past games. Instead, it has a name — Cappy — a pair of expressive cartoon eyes, and a game-changing ability: it can capture many of the creatures you encounter. Read more...

Ah, Paul Ryan, the athletic, youthful, sharply-dressed former vice presidential candidate and current Speaker of the House. With all on Ryan`s plate, it`s impressive that the man has time to maintain his status as the most unpopular politician in America. And yet, somehow he does it!

It`s this impressive feat by Ryan that inspired two writers and comedians to create a nearly 200-page long satirical magazine devoted to Ryan, the ideas he`s brought to Washington, and the print industry at large.

After years of mercifully letting Kinect continue to exist, Microsoft finally killed the once revolutionary console.

Microsoft told the innovation site Fast Co Design that after seven years of production, it will no longer make the Xbox auxiliary console, which allowed gamers to get off the couch and actively immerse themselves in gaming by jumping, ducking, and punching.

Kinect uses infrared mapping to capture the 3D shapes of rooms and the acrobatic movements of people inside them.

There are still some 35 million Kinect devices in the world today, a testament to its earlier popularity: In 2011, Kinect was the fastest-selling consumer device on Earth, selling over 130,000 units a day for two months.  Read more...

Lady Gaga`s latest wax figure is a imperfect illusion, and by that I mean it`s complete trash.

Lin-Manuel Miranda continues to keep Puerto Rico in the conversation.

Just a few weeks ago, the Hamilton playwright created "Almost Like Praying" featuring all-star Latin celebrities. The song was in honor of Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria and all the proceeds went to Hispanic Federation.

The hurricane left around 3.5 million people without power, food and resources. So far, the non-profit raised over 14 million to help the island.

But he`s not stopping there.

When all the millennials delete Uber, give them a free Spotify credit and see if they`ll come back.

Uber just released its first credit card, and it`s full of every possible millennial perk a giant tech company and/or credit card provider would think young people want.

The Visa card in partnership with Barclays will give you a 50 credit for subscription services once you spend 5,000 in a year—aka 50 toward Spotify, Netflix, or Amazon Prime.

It also offers higher cash back for things related to Uber`s core business: transportation and travel. You get 4 percent back for dining (as Uber helpfully points out, including UberEATS), 3 percent for hotels and airfare, 2 percent for online purchases (as Uber again helpfully points out, including Uber), and 1 percent on everything else. All your rewards can of course be translated into Uber credits.  Read more...

Senate Republicans do not want their constituents to be able to defend themselves against banks and credit card companies.

The Senate split its vote down the middle on Tuesday over a new rule that would have protected consumers` ability to sue financial institutions via class-action lawsuits. Vice President Mike Pence cast the deciding vote to revoke the rule, which had barely been on the books for a month

What this means, in short, is that anyone interested in suing their bank is now less likely to do so—and less likely to win. Read more...

The collaborative workplace platform Slack just announced its adding one of its most requested features: a new screen-sharing tool.

Slack previously allowed users on a call to share screens with other collaborators, but now, Slack users can also allow others to interact with the screen in a number of ways, including typing, drawing, and editing on the screen.

Here`s an example of a Slack screen with multiple participants interacting at once:

To enhance its screen-sharing ability, Slack acquired the collaborative workplace app Screenhero in 2014 and has been incrementally moving Screenhero`s interactive features into the official Slack apps and clients. Now, the integration is complete, and Slack says it will sunset the Screenhero on December 1.  Read more...

The Halloween season is upon us, which means time for some scary stories to distract from the real terrors of the world.

Opinions used to be all the rage. But now, it’s all about facts. People don’t want to hear unsubstantiated garbage; they want to hear about what`s real. That’s where data science comes in.

Data can be a wonderful tool, but modern businesses are generating so much of it that they don’t have time to sift through it themselves. And since machines can`t do it all for them, they need data scientists like you to analyze the data and uncover hidden patterns, correlations, and trends.

“What’s that?” you say. “I’m not a data scientist, let alone a regular scientist.” Read more...

In March, President Trump attempted to make good on one of his tweeted campaign promises to reverse an executive action by President Obama. The only problem was that two senators from Alaska didn`t actually want to pick up what the president was puttin` down.
